Do you have shelves of mason jars? I do! I love them and use them for so many things from hanging lanterns to party decoration to sweet little gifts to food storage.
They are inexpensive, fit perfectly in a cup holder, come in tons of sizes and get them in blue, green or clear.
If you want to transform your mason jars into drinking cups it literally takes minutes and about $.50 to do.
You just need a few things to make these cute little jars:
- Drill or Hole Punch
- Mason Jar with standard lid
- Rubber Grommets from the Home Improvement store
- Straws
So
you want to put a little hole in the lid of your cup. If you have a
drill handy you can screw the lid of the jar on and that will provide a
base to drill. Carefully drill your hole in the spot you like (the
center or side). You can also use a Sharpie to mark the same spot on
all your lids so you drill in the same place each time.
Next you have to zip over to the home improvement store. I can’t recommend taking your lid and a straw with you highly enough. (Said from a person that made two trips to Lowe’s for this simple project.) You want to head over to where they have screws and nails and such and ask the employee to help you find small rubber grommets.
Once you get those little guys home, just squoosh them and squeeze them and they should fit perfectly into your hole making a clean seal. And now you are all done! See? Fits perfectly!
I soaked my grommets in hot water and soap first to clean them but you can also just rinse your lids after you make it. I like to hand wash mason jar lids anyway.
And now you are all set to have an awesome cheap and cute and functional mason jar cup.
I have seen people spray paint their jar lids or paint the jars (on the outside). Personally I wouldn’t paint something that I would be drinking from but totally up to you with what your comfort level is.
